Facts About Reflexology
What is it?
The International Institute of Reflexology defines Reflexology as: a science which deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs, and parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way.
Where does it come from?
The modern technique of reflexology (developed by physical therapist Eunice Ingham, in 1930) is based on the same principles that underlie the practice of acupuncture, acupressure, and massage. Similar techniques have been used in many cultures. There is evidence that a healing technique like reflexology was practiced in Egypt as long ago as 2330 B.C.
What is it used for?
In Ingham Method of Reflexology is used to promote relaxation and relieve tension. Medical science estimates that more than 75% of illness and other health problems are directly related to, or aggravated by tension and stress in our daily lives. Reflexology is a simple, natural , non-invasive approach to helping the body maintain normal functions, eliminate toxins, and protect against illness by reducing the negative effects of stress and assisting relaxation. For example, clinical trials have shown that Reflexology effectivel reduces PMS (New England Journal of Medicine).
